Hey! Welcome. Glad you’re here.
I am Sara Kahn, MS, CNS. I am a board-certified clinical & functional nutritionist in New York City and virtually by video conference all over the country.
Like most of my clients, I have struggled with digestive issues for years, not to mention anemia, nutrient deficiencies, and skin conditions. It wasn’t until I understood the root cause of my symptoms that true healing could begin.
Let’s face it - digestive conditions are no fun (to put it mildly). Not only do they affect your gut but they can also affect work, your social life, your romantic life, your workouts, your anxiety levels, your self-confidence and more.
After being diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), I met with several doctors, tried numerous elimination diets and took a gazillion supplements over the years. I would get some relief but symptoms would always return.
Several years later, I was diagnosed with and treated for SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth) and the underlying causes, which for me include bacterial gastroenteritis, history of antibiotic usage and major stress. I can now tolerate a vastly increased number of foods, which frankly, makes life way more enjoyable and much less stressful.
I have experienced first hand how nutrition for IBS & SIBO has impacted my health. But it wasn’t just a change in diet that helped. I took an integrative, multi-pronged approach to healing including stress management (thanks to meditation and yoga), movement (regular moderate exercise - no more spinning for me) and improved sleep.
That’s my story but here are a few other things you may want to know:
— Professional qualifications include a Masters of Science in Nutrition & Integrative Health (MS); Certified Nutrition Specialist practitioner (CNS) - so that’s what all of those acronyms mean :-)
— There is nothing I enjoy more than sharing the gift of improved health with my clients (well… I do love tacos and pizza - that’s a close second).
— I am also a yoga teacher specializing in teaching yoga to beginners, restorative yoga and simple relaxation techniques (ommmmmmm…..).
— I love cooking and learned how to adapt my food limitations to make seriously tasty food (shhhh… no one knows I’m on a special diet).
— I share a home with Michael, who deserves endless appreciation for his patience and support during this health journey. He cooks (and eats) Sara-approved foods, scans menus for foods I can eat, and makes me peppermint tea when tummy trouble strikes. I hope you have a Michael in your life.
— We are managed by our two kitties – Sushi & Sake. In addition to bringing joy to your life, did you know spending time with your pet could help reduce stress? Yup, check out this article for more information.
